2 minutes readWhen Nasif graduated in January 2020, he drafted a resume, which he sent out to different businesses. Despite being called for interviews by a few companies, these did not result in employment as he had anticipated. “Fortunately, I landed an internship opportunity at the National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda (NUDIPU) upon applying in 2019,” he says. The soft skills training equipped Nasif and other young job seekers with disabilities with the skills that they need to compete favorably in the labor market. The 1-day training includes sessions on CV writing, building self-esteem, networking, how to prepare for interviews, as well as communicating their reasonable accommodation needs to a prospective employer.
6 minutes readUganda Breweries Limited considers inclusion and diversity a business priority, forming part of its company wide business strategy. Under this deliverable, the company sought to actualise its commitment to have at least 5% of its staff to be people with disabilities. This commitment was made by the Rosemary Nakuya, UBL Human Resource Business Partner, at the UBDN launch, “We had already been working with some people with disabilities, and through them, we were able to learn what they needed to succeed at work. From this experience, we took the challenge to create more employment placement opportunities for young graduates with disabilities.”
